DJ EUROPEAN MIDDAY BRIEFING FROM DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

AMERICAN MARKETS OUTLOOK:

U.S. stocks are called to open higher Wednesday, in line with stock index futures, as Dell's earnings help to stabilize the tech sector following Hewlett-Packard's results, says David Morrison at GFT. DJIA is seen up 20 points at 12500 and S&P 500 up three at 1332. The Federal Open Market Committee minutes are due at 1800 GMT and on the corporate front, Deere, Staples and Target are due to report.

At 1025 GMT, S&P 500 futures were up 5.20 points at 1330.60, Nasdaq 100 futures were up 7.63 points at 2344.88 and Dow industrial futures were up 30.50 points at 12480.5.

EUROPEAN MARKETS: European stocks opened sharply higher with resource stocks leading the gains amid recovering commodity prices. Stoxx 600 basic resource index was +1.3%. Deutsche Telekom +1.8%, leading the Euro Stoxx 50 index following a rating upgrade to buy from BofA-Merrill Lynch. Meanwhile banking stocks got a boost after recent losses in the sector. Additionally, Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Josef Ackermann told press on Tuesday of the bank's higher profit goals for the next two-to-three years. Stoxx 600 banks index +0.7%.

At 1028 GMT, the Euro Stoxx 50 index was trading 0.30% higher at 2602.66, while London's FTSE 100 was up 0.86% at 5911.47

At 1037 GMT, June bunds were down 0.05 at 124.35, while June gilts were up 0.16 at 120.87. The euro was up at $1.4256, the dollar was higher at Y81.03 and the pound was lower at $1.6181.

PBOC MAY RAISE RATES IN JUNE
China's central bank will likely raise the benchmark lending and deposit rates by 25 basis points each in June to combat high inflation, a survey of 10 economists by Dow Jones Newswires shows.

 
DELL PLANS MORE ACQUISITIONS THIS YEAR
Personal-computer maker Dell plans to make more acquisitions this year, focusing on the areas of storage, system management, services and software.

 
UK UNEMPLOYMENT DROPS UNEXPECTEDLY
U.K. unemployment falls unexpectedly in the first three months of this year to the lowest rate since the third quarter 2010, data from the Office of National Statistics shows.
