AMERICAN MARKETS OUTLOOK: U.S. stocks are expected to open a touch higher. Volumes are expected to be light, given the festive season and lack of a serious lead from Europe given the U.K. bank holiday.

At 1144 GMT, S&P 500 futures were up 3.05 points at 1256.35, Nasdaq 100 futures were up 3.88 points at 2233.88 and Dow industrial futures were up 20.50 points at 11523.5

EUROPEAN MARKETS: European stocks climbed higher in thin trading, as the U.K. holiday dampened activity. At 1125 GMT, Euro Stoxx 50 was up 0.3% at 2833.80. The expectations of some positive trading on Wall Street helped to overturn Monday's negative sentiment. In corporate news, shares in Alcatel-Lucent were up 1.6% after the company settled bribery allegations in the U.S.

Bunds were up, with stronger Treasurys and the euro allowing a reversion of Monday's falls. At 1142 GMT, March bunds were up 0.65 at 125.32.

Volumes were limited in the foreign exchange markets during European hours, as the U.K. was on holiday, but the dollar continued to weaken. This was prompted by speculation that the five-year $35 billion Treasury auction will attract healthy demand later in the day, after Monday's 2-year auction went well. This would weigh on Treasury yields, reducing the appeal of the dollar.

At 1142 GMT, the dollar was down at Y81.99, the euro was up at $1.3269 and the pound was slightly up at $1.5460
